Ricardo Ambrósio Fock is an Associate Professor at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, in the Department of Clinical Analyses and Toxicology, School of Pharmaceutical Science, and chief of the Division of Clinical Laboratory in School Hospital at the University of Sao Paulo. Dr Fock has a pharmaceutical degree and obtained his Ph.D. in Clinical Analyses, Hematology at University of Sao Paulo. He received postdoctoral training in mechanisms of blood cell production control and mesenchymal stem cells research at University of Sao Paulo and Interdisciplinary Stem Cell Institute of Miami Miller School of Medicine, respectively, setting up the basis for his current research interests. Dr Fock is one of the heads of the Experimental Hematology Laboratory and his lab is currently investigating the mechanisms that control the hematopoiesis. His team is now running studies to identify mechanisms of action including regulation of mesenchymal stem cell plasticity. Dr Fock has also identified molecules that regulates mesenchymal stem cell differentiation and his lab is currently investigating the mechanisms by which bone-marrow derived stem cells are pushed into adipogenic lineage and in parallel targeted molecules able to regulate the hematopoiesis. Dr Fock’s expertise in cell biology and data mining allows him to compile mechanisms to identify candidate molecules with potential therapeutic functions.
