Descrição: Data show that antimicrobial use in the livestock sector is linked with the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), with wide-ranging consequences for human, animal, and environmental health. Despite the accumulation of evidence relating the transmission of genes conferring bacterial resistance from animals to humans, and a demonstrated association between antimicrobial use in livestock and the transmission of these Aantibiotic resistance genes through the food chain, there remains an important gap in our knowledge regarding the possible extent of this transmission and the role of the food chain in AMR development and spread more broadly. We are investigating these ideas using both traditional molecular biology techniques, as well as NGS to try to determine is there are differences in AMR gene profile presente in the gut of individuals that consume or don't consume meat. Furthermore, we aim to characterize the AMR gene profile that exists in the gut of Brazilian healthy individuals..
